Phathu Makwarela
Television Executive Producer and Writer
Phathu Makwarela is arguably the most prolific television telenovela creator, executive producer and writer of his generation in South Africa, having co-created some of the most popular telenovelas in South Africa and Africa. He co-owns Tshedza Pictures, the multi award-winning production company, with Gwydion Beynon. Tshedza Pictures’ best work includes Multichoice’s telenovelas iThonga, Champions, Legacy, Gqeberha The Empire, the emmy nominated The River and showmax’s popular hits Outlaws, Adulting and Youngins. A Film and Television Graduate from Tshwane University of Technology, Phathu Makwarela has become synonymous with ground-breaking television dramthat have become the mainstay of South African television.
