Rajesh Gopie

Actor, Playwright, Director, and Acting Coach

Rajesh Gopie is a South African actor, playwright, director, and acting coach renowned for his contributions to theatre, film, and television. Born in Durban, South Africa, he pursued a Bachelor of Arts in English, Drama, and History at the University of Natal. Furthering his studies, Gopie earned a Master’s degree in Actor Training and Coaching from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

Gopie’s career spans over three decades, during which he has performed in numerous productions. Notable works include the acclaimed one-man play Out of Bounds, which delves into the experiences of South African Indian families during apartheid. His theatrical credits also encompass The Coolie Odyssey, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, The Chimp Project, and Hamlet.

In film, Gopie has appeared in Keeping Up with the Kandasamys (2017), Mayfair (2018), and New Material (2020), showcasing his versatility across genres.  On television, his roles include appearances in Generations, Zero Tolerance, Stellenbosch, Swartwater, and The Indian Detective.

Beyond his performance career, Gopie is dedicated to nurturing emerging talent through his acting academy, ActorWize. He offers specialized training in film and television acting, emphasizing a psycho-physical approach to performance. His commitment to education reflects his passion for developing the next generation of South African actors.

Gopie’s work continues to influence and inspire the South African entertainment industry, blending artistic excellence with a commitment to cultural storytelling and mentorship.
