The John Kani Performing Arts Academy (JKA) proudly collaborates with government departments, cultural institutions, and private funders to deliver high-impact, mission-aligned projects that advance South African arts and culture.

Each project is designed to:

  • Strengthen the professional arts ecosystem
  • Develop skilled practitioners in specialised areas
  • Support transformation and access in the creative sector
  • Honour the legacy of South African storytelling

UPCOMING PROJECTS

PROVINCIAL MASTER CLASSES (2025)

Funded by the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture

A  skills development initiative for emerging artists already active in the field. This Incubation programme will consist of 3-day Master Classes in KwaZulu Natal, Limpopo, North West and Western Cape.

CREATIVE COURSES - GAUTENG (2025)

In partnership with the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture

The following courses will be offered in Johannesburg:

  • Creative Writing
  • Acting for Stage
  • Directing
  • Choreography
  • Set & Costume Design
  • Lighting Design
  • Sound Design
  • Production Management
  • Text Interpretation
  • Voice Coaching

LEGACY VOICES

A documentary theatre programme that archives and dramatises the untold stories of industry veterans. Includes interviews, scriptwriting, live performances and a digital archive.
